The 2023 USA Nationals 🇺🇸

Judit Castillo, a newcomer to pickleball since October 2022, won a bronze medal in the women's pro singles draw at the 2023 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships. 

As the No. 5 seed, she defeated Lacy Schneemann and Salome Devidze in the earlier rounds before facing top seed Anna Leigh Waters in the semifinals, where she was defeated. Despite doubts about her game, Castillo expressed satisfaction with her performance in her first Nationals. 

A former collegiate tennis standout, she left her job to play pickleball professionally and has been active in numerous tournaments throughout the season. Originally from Spain, Castillo enjoys representing both her home country and Louisiana, where she currently resides. 

She appreciates the fun atmosphere and growing popularity of pickleball, especially among younger players. Castillo credits her success to the support of her cheering section, including friends who made the trip from Louisiana to Texas for the Nationals.

“Crazy Kathy” Is More Than a Pickleball Superfan 🎾

Kathy Demetri, known as "Crazy Kathy" in the pickleball community, is a passionate player and fan, attending events to support both professional players and friends in the amateur draw. She transitioned from tennis to pickleball in 2015, drawn to the social, easy-to-learn, and inexpensive nature of the sport. 

Demetri is not only an active player but also serves as an ambassador for USA Pickleball, a Level 2 referee, and a certified teacher of the sport. Despite a wrist injury in 2023, she continues to play and participate in tournaments.
